Yellow breasted Antpitta
Grallaria flavotincta
Mountains
The Yellow breasted Antpitta is a medium-sized bird found in the subtropical zone of the Andes. It has a distinctive plump shape, short tail, and long legs. It is mostly warm rufous-brown above and pale yellow below. It is restricted to the west slope of the Andes in Colombia and Ecuador. It is very difficult to see, but occasionally hops along a forest trail, especially in the morning and evening. It seems to prefer streams in ravines and gullies. Listen for its three-parted whistled song, with the first note softer and lower.
This species can be observed during our bird photography trips in Chocó Andino in Ecuador.
