White Tufted Sunbeam

Aglaeactis castelnaudii
Mountains

The White Tufted Sunbeam is a bird from the Trochilidae family that is relatively large and dark. It is limited to a small range in the high Andes of Peru. Its color is a dark orange-brown with a golden tail, iridescent purple back, and a bold white tuft on the breast. It can be distinguished from the similar Shining Sunbeam by its darker brown head and body and brighter white chest patch. The bird is found in semi-humid scrub at high altitudes, especially around valleys between mountains. If you go on our tours to the Manu National Park, you can spot this bird.
