Sunbittern

Eurypyga helias
Mountains

The Sunbittern is a stunning bird with a distinctive pattern of yellow, red, and black on its outspread wings. It has a heron-like shape and a horizontal posture with a longer tail. It can be identified by its striped black-and-white head and barred back. The bird is typically found alone or in pairs near rivers or swamps, standing silently on the shore. Its long whistling call can be heard during dawn and dusk.

This species can be observed during our bird photography trips in Chocó Andino in Ecuador.
