The Violet Headed Hummingbird is a small and compact bird from the Trochilidae family. It has a short, straight bill and a distinctive white spot behind its eye. The male has a vibrant violet crown and throat, while the female has a paler bluish crown and gray throat. This bird is often seen with its tail slightly cocked while feeding on small purple flowers in gardens. Although it is mostly found in gardens, it can also be seen in forested areas and edges. You can spot this hummingbird on our tours in the Manu National Park.
