Moss backed Tanager
Bangsia edwardsi
Mountains
The Moss backed tanager is unusual and inhabits the Andean cloud forest in western Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. It has olive plumage with a yellow breast spot, blue wings, and a unique blue and black head pattern. The males and females have similar appearances, but immature birds have less yellow on the breast. The tanager can be found in the middle to upper levels of the forest and may perch for extended periods. Occasionally, it joins mixed-species flocks and has been observed visiting feeders in certain regions.
This species can be observed during our bird photography trips in Chocó Andino in Ecuador.
