Heliodoxa aurescens
Rainforest
The Gould’s Jewelfront belongs to the Trochilidae family. It is a chunky hummingbird with a stout bill. Its appereance is glittering green with a huge orange breast patch and purple forehead. Male has a black chin and the female lacks this and has a short, whitish mustache stripe. It is mainly a lowland species, but ranges well up into the eastern foothills of the Andes in some areas. This species is rather scarce in mature humid forest and occasionally visits feeders. You can see it on our luxury bird photography tours.
