Golden olive Woodpecker
Colaptes rubiginosus
Rainforest
The Golden olive Woodpecker is a type of woodpecker from the Picidae family. It is commonly found in tropical and subtropical forests and has an overall green color that distinguishes it from other woodpeckers. It typically resides in the mid-upper levels of the forest and can move very slowly, making it difficult to spot unless its calls are recognized. Both male and female woodpeckers have red on the back of their heads. The “Bronze-winged Woodpecker” of Northeast Mexico has less red on the head and a distinct voice that differs from the more widespread forms of the Golden-olive Woodpecker. You can observe and photograph it on our bird watching tours.
