Buff tailed Coronet
Boissonneaua flavescens
Mountains
The Buff tailed Coronet is a medium-sized hummingbird, which is mostly dark green with an obvious buffy underwing and mostly buffy tail. It has a fairly short and straight bill, and the sexes are similar in appearance. This bird can be found in cloud forests ranging from Venezuela to Ecuador, usually at elevations between 1,500 to 2,400 meters. It is known to forage in the middle to upper levels of trees. It also visits feeders and is known to be territorial, aggressively defending its space against other hummingbirds. You can spot them during our bird photography tours in the Chocó Andino in Ecuador.
