The Bearded Mountaineer is a large hummingbird with a distinctive facial pattern and long tail. Its upperparts are brown, while its underparts are white, and it has a brown head and black-and-white forked tail. Males have an iridescent green and purple gorget, and in some populations, a blue forehead, while females are similar but less colorful. This species inhabits dry mountain scrub at high elevations and can be observed on Manu National Park tours.
